Why Mendy & Alonso got angry at Rudiger’s decision in the 73rd minute against Everton

Why Mendy & Alonso got angry at Rudiger’s decision in the 73rd minute against Everton finally revealed

Chelsea were defeated 1-0 by Everton at Goodison Park, owing to Richarlison’s early second-half strike. However, that was not the only talking point of the game, as an event in the 73rd minute also sparked debate among Chelsea supporters.

The commentator claimed in the 73rd minute that Chelsea goalkeeper Edouard Mendy and left-back Marcos Alonso had a go at Antonio Rudiger for kicking the ball out for a throw-in to allow Richarlison, who was down in Chelsea’s penalty box, to receive treatment.

They had every reason to be enraged because they were losing and Everton had the opportunity to kick the ball out for a throw-in but failed to do so. Instead, they decided to keep attacking, forcing Mendy to make a save.

The commentator confirmed that the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) checked the incident that resulted in Richarlison’s injury in Chelsea’s penalty box behind the scenes, but that there was no evidence of foul play, and that it was the Everton striker who kicked Reece James when both players went for the ball.

Richarlison’s effort to delay time was probably seen by Mendy and Alonso, and Everton’s choice not to kick out the ball despite seeing him lying on the ground warranted their rage.

However, Chelsea will be in serious risk of being dragged into a top-four race that seemed unthinkable only a few weeks ago as Arsenal close the gap to 3points after their win over West Ham
