Why we laughed at Timo Werner on the bench – Mason Mount reveals after FA Cup win over Crystal Palace
Chelsea defeated Crystal Palace 2-0 in the semi-final of the FA Cup tie at Wembley.
However, Chelsea forward Timo Werner was the man of the match.
After a goalless first half, Ruben Loftus-Cheek opened the scoring in 65th minute of the game. Timo Werner would then assist Mason Mount ten minutes later for Chelsea’s second goal.
Werner had an awesome game as he also created chances for Romelu Lukaku and was a live wire all through the game.
He could have had another one [for Romelu Lukaku] and he could have had probably a couple of goals as well.
Werner had scored in consecutive games against Southampton and Real Madrid, but missed a fine chance against Palace, which made Mount and Jorginho laugh at the German international.
Asked about Werner’s performance, Mount told ITV Sport after the match: “He got me a little assist!
“He’s brilliant, he’s done so well over the last couple of games.
“You can see in the second half, he had a chance I think and he missed, me and Jorgi [Jorginho] were laughing on the bench, and he ran all the way back to the halfway line to win the ball back!
“That shows what kind of player he is and what he brings to the team.”
