Willian now has one more reason to stay in London

Willian has revealed he has recently acquired the UK citizenship.

“I recently passed a British citizenship test,” the 31-year-old told The Players’ Tribune. “Man, it was hard. It’s British history in a nutshell: the 1500s, the 1600s, wars, battles, great leaders, stuff like that.

“Some questions are so difficult that not even some of my British friends knew the answers! I bought this handbook called Life in the UK Test, which covers everything in the exam. I don’t know how many hours I spent reading it. I also downloaded a phone app with mock tests.

“As it turned out, I failed on my first two attempts but got it on the third. I am now a British citizen!

“So London is where I want to stay. This is where I have my family, my church. I want my daughters to grow up here. Whenever I get back to the dressing room, I want to keep seeing their messages. I want to keep hearing their love and encouragement.”

It’s yet to be seen whether Willian stays at Chelsea. The forward remains a target for both Juventus and Barcelona with his contract set to expire on 30 June 2020. The Blues are yet to offer the winger a new deal.

At the moment, Willian is one of the longest-serving players in the Blues squad. Only captain Cesar Azpilicueta and injured Marco van Ginkel have been part of the club for a longer time.

The Brazilian arrived at Stamford Bridge back in August 2013 on a £30m move from Anzhi Makhachkala. The current campaign is Willian’s 7th with Chelsea. All in all, the 31-year-old has scored 57 goals and registered 58 assists in his 324 appearances for the Blues.
