5 left-backs on Chelsea January list as Ben Chilwell ruled out for the rest of the season
According to latest reports, Chelsea have confirmed that Ben Chilwell has been ruled out for the rest of the season.
However, The 25-year-old will undergo knee surgery in a bid to return to training in time ahead of the start of the 2021/22 campaign.
Currently, Marcos Alonso is the only senior team player who can fill in as a left wing-back, and the club will have to sign a new left-back in January.
According to Di Marzio, Chelsea is considering the possibility of recalling one of the two full-backs Chelsea have sent out on loan.
Emerson Palmieri is currently at Lyon while youngster Ian Maatsen has impressed at Coventry City, and the Blues are considering either of the two.
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has also mentioned another name in the mix, with Ajax left-back Nicolas Tagliafico – being linked with the left wing-back role at Chelsea.
The Telegraph report that Barcelona full-back Sergino Dest is another option being considered by Chelsea, and one name that has been consistently linked with the club is Everton star Lucas Digne who has reportedly fallen out with club boss Rafa Benitez.
