“At his age he’s doing what Steven Gerrard, Frank Lampard & Co couldn’t do” – Rio Ferdinand hails Chelsea top transfer target

According to reports, Jude Bellingham, a midfielder for Borussia Dortmund, is now a target for Chelsea.

However, Jude Bellingham is a superb player whose skill as a footballer has never been in question, and he is drawing significant interest from all the major Premier League teams.

The midfielder for Borussia Dortmund led his team in the UEFA Champions League match against Sevilla on Wednesday night, becoming the third-youngest captain in the competition behind Ruben Neves and Matthijs de Ligt. He not only scored a goal, but he also provided an assist, making him the player of the match.

Rio Ferdinand, who made over 450 appearances for Manchester United during his playing career, said that what Bellingham is accomplishing as a midfielder at his age in football is something that “we haven’t seen” before.

Ferdinand thinks Bellingham is accomplishing feats that legends like Frank Lampard and company did not accomplish while still so young.

“What he’s doing in his position at his age, we haven’t seen,” the pundit told BT Sport. “The best of our generation, Gerrard, Lampard, Scholes, them guys…Viera, Roy Keane, they weren’t doing this.

“He still has to go on and prove it over a long period of time but they were not doing what he is doing right now, influencing games at this level, captaining a team at this level, he is the full package. Mentally, this kid’s a beast, no doubts about him.”

Bellingham has continued to grow in his game since moving to Dortmund in 2020. The midfielder has now reached 100 appearances for the Bundesliga club, scoring 14 goals, and assisting another 20 in that time.
