BREAKING: UEFA set to re-draw Champions League round of 16 after two clubs complained

According to latest reports, UEFA have confirmed that the draw for the Champions League round of 16 fixtures will be redone.

This is after they made a technical error and didn’t count Man United among the possible opponents for Atletico Madrid.

UEFA tweeted out a statement, saying: “Following a technical problem with the software of an external service provider that instructs the officials as to which teams are eligible to play each other, a material error occurred in the draw for the UEFA Champions League Round of 16.

“As a result of this, the draw has been declared void and will be entirely redone at 1500 CET.”

Chelsea were set to face Lille but could face someone else after the redraw is done.

However, before the confirmation, UEFA looks to the mistake made when Man United were not placed in the pot of Atletico Madrid’s potential opponents in the Champions League draw, as per Fabrizio Romano.

The Red Devils’ ball was mistakenly replaced by Liverpool – which was not legal as they had already faced the Spanish opposition in the group stages.

The blunder began when United’s ball was removed from the Villarreal draw and UEFA forgot to place it back.

The decision over whether a redraw will happen is likely to be confirmed soon.
