Cesar Azpilicueta sends ‘strong message’ to referee after failing to give Chelsea a penalty

Cesar Azpilicueta sends strong message to referee after failing to give Chelsea a penalty against Manchester United.

Chelsea should have had a first-half penalty when Harry Maguire held down Cesar Azpilicueta as a free-kick was swung into the United box.

Referee Martin Atkinson failed to give Chelsea a penalty and VAR also failed to review the incident and overturn the referee’s decision.

Chelsea captain Cesar Azpilicueta spoke about the incident at the end of the game and has a message for the referee.

Azpilicueta told Sky Sports: “I felt both arms around my neck and shoulders. I think yes (it should have been a penalty). Martin Atkinson is the man to make the decisions, so why not take 20 seconds to review it?”
