“I know they’ve watched him”: Chelsea named as potential suitors to sign 31-goal forward

Peterborough Director of Football, Barry Fry, revealed that Chelsea and Everton could still be interested in signing Ivan Toney.

Toney, of course, left Peterborough to join Brentford last summer in a deal that could cost them around £10m. But that has proven to be a steal, as he netted 31 times in the league this season to win them promotion to the Premier League.

And now, the Blues can expect competition from the Toffees for Toney’s signature. That is the view of Fry, who also expects any deal for the Englishman to cost somewhere above £40m.

“I still think [teams] like Everton and even Chelsea [are interested in him]. I know Chelsea are looking at the top range of centre-forwards, but I know they’ve watched him and like him, and if they don’t get A, B, and C, who knows? Then I expect Ivan to go for £40m, £45m, £50m, but now he’s got them in the Premier League, only the top clubs could afford him.”

Toney to Chelsea?
Brentford have made a habit of discovering quality strikers then selling them off to Premier League clubs in big-money moves. That was the case with Ollie Watkins and Neil Maupay, who joined Aston Villa and Brighton respectively.

And now, Toney could potentially join that list. Chelsea need someone to add goals to their team in their forward line, considering Jorginho was their league top-scorer with 7 goals this time around.

They still managed to finish in the top 4, but fans would know that they can be title contenders next season if their frontline starts firing and adding goals to their respective tallies.

But it remains to be seen if Brentford decide to sell their star striker just after winning promotion to the top division and if the Blues actually formalize their interest in the 25-year-old.
