“It will be hard for Tuchel to start him in games” – Ashley Cole reveals why Tuchel can’t start Chelsea player yet

Saul Niguez was the man of the match against Spurs in the Caraboa Cup Semi Finals first leg.

However, the Spanish player put some outstanding performances as the Blues beat the London club 2-0 at Stamford Bridge.

However, Chelsea legend, Ashley Cole believes Saul Niguez will have earned himself more first-team opportunities following his performance against Tottenham but isn’t convinced the Spanish international can get into the starting XI at Chelsea.

According to Cole, Mateo Kovacic, N’Golo Kante and Jorginho are all ahead of Saul Niguez in the pecking order.

“I thought he played well,” Cole told Sky Sports when assessing Saul’s performance. “I think he had good balance with Jorginho in there, he had a little bit more license for freedom.

“Yes, he played in a two but he could go out into those wide areas a little more with Jorginho just sat a little bit.

“In terms of his overall performance and the worries and concerns people had around him, he’s done enough tonight to warrant that he should get more opportunities.

“But ultimately, the two or three players in front of him are playing so well so it will be very tough to get into this team.”

Recently, Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel was impressed with the performance of Saul Niguez against Tottenham Hotspur.

Tuchel said: “So I am very happy with his performance. Today was a huge step for him.”
