‘It’s hard to beat him one-on-one, hard to lose’ – Ashley Cole reveals why £100k-a-week Chelsea player is turning into a leader
Following Chelsea’s 1-0 victory over Tottenham, Chelsea legend Ashley Cole has hailed Antonio Rudiger for his brilliant performance as Chelsea beat Tottenham 1-0 on Wednesday night and 3-0 on aggregate to progress to the final of the Carabao Cup.
However, the Antonio Rudiger contract situation has been brewing for a while and Thomas Tuchel has expressed his confidence when it comes to keeping the German at Chelsea.
Meanwhile, former Chelsea player Ashley Cole has given his take on the situation, explaining why keeping the centre-back is a ‘must’.
Cole told Sky Sports: “To keep players like Rudiger with that character is a must,”
“You can’t lose top, top players like him from your dressing room. He can do everything. He can start attacks and is very brave and shows personality on the ball. It’s hard to beat him one-on-one.
“He’s becoming a leader and although he’s temperamental at times the fans love him. That’s what makes him who he is.”
Rudiger has become a core piece under Thomas Tuchel, his personality and elevated quality of play making him nearly irreplaceable at the club.
