‘It’s heartbreaking’ – Former Premier League referee blasts Anthony Taylor decision on Tottenham hair-pull saga against Chelsea

Cristian Romero, a Tottenham player, grabbed Marc Cucurella’s hair prior to the corner kick that set up Harry Kane’s late equalizer.

Spurs scored after VAR examined the situation but decided not to intervene.

In particular, Tottenham’s Cristian Romero’s escape from penalty after tugging Marc Cucurella’s hair during the game infuriated Thomas Tuchel.

Peter Walton, a former Premier League official, asserted that Tuchel was correct in that instance.

Walton told The Times: “He did have a case with his complaints over Cristian Romero’s hair-pull on Marc Cucurella.”

“Pulling hair is violent conduct and Spurs were lucky that VAR did not instruct Anthony Taylor to go to the pitchside monitor.

“For me, there was enough force for an offence. Romero and Cucurella were clearly tussling from a corner once it had been taken, so the Tottenham Hotspur man was tugging hair once the ball was in play.

“Consequently, if violent conduct had been identified, Romero would have been sent off.”
