Just In: Roman Abramovich plans to step in and sign world-class defender in January

Chelsea have been strongly linked with Bayern Munich superstar David Alaba in recent months, and the transfer rumours keep growing with time.

According to reports, Chelsea are serious about a move for Alaba, in a bid to bolster the defensive options for next season.

Alaba’s contract with Bayern is set to expire next summer and he is yet to agree a contract extension with the German champions.

Chelsea are set to take advantage of the situation, and according to Tribal Football, Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich will try to use his good relationship with super agent Pini Zahavi to clinch a deal for the Bayern Munich defender.

Zahavi is known to be a close friend of Roman Abramovich and the Israeli helped engineer his take-over in west London in 2003. He also played an integral role that saw many top players sign for Chelsea at the beginning of the Roman Abramovich era.

BILD claims Chelsea have scheduled contract talks with Alaba’s agent Zahavi in January, and Zahavi’s influence might be a good one for Chelsea.
