Chelsea and Liverpool have allegedly joined the race for Borussia Dortmund’s prized asset Jadon Sancho.

Manchester United were the favourites for the winger’s signature but the Red Devils no longer have a monopoly as other clubs are ready to join the hunt.

United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer made Sancho his number one target this summer but Ed Woodward failed to finalise the transfer.

Transfer talks dragged on for many months but they ultimately refused to meet BVB’s £108 million valuation.

He has struggled for form this season so it is unclear if the Bundesliga will still continue to demand such a substantial sum.

Other outfits could not pay nine-figures during the previous transfer market as the world was in the midst of the COVID-19 crisis. But there could be more money available to spend at the end of the campaign which will entice more Jadon suitors.

According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Frank Lampard’s side and Liverpool will battle United next year.

Chelsea chief Frank Lampard spent over £200 million heading into the 2020/21 term whereas Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp was restricted to cheaper deals.

Both head coaches, along with Ole, are expected to have the necessary funds to spend in six months. On the Que Golazo podcast, Romano said Liverpool and Chelsea will “frustrate” Red Devils as a bidding war could ensue.

Jadon has yet to score a goal in 11 Bundesliga appearances this campaign but Die Borussen caretaker manager Edin Terzic is not worried.

”He really wants to win, he really wants to show something,” said Edin, who stepped in when Lucien Favre was sacked this month.

“But what Jadon lacks is the ease and magic we are used to from him.”
