‘Start him in second leg, you struggled outside without him’ – Glenn Hoddle advice Tuchel to start £100k-a-week Chelsea player next week against Real Madrid

Chelsea lost control of their Champions League quarter-final tie with Madrid by losing 3-1 yesterday in the first leg at Stamford Bridge.

Karim Benzema’s hat-trick puts the La Liga leaders in the ascendancy, so they’ll be expected to finish the job in next Tuesday’s second leg at the Bernabeu.

It’s going to take a much improved performance next week from the Blues in order to progress.

However, Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel tweaked his line-up to face Real Madrid in the Champions League quarter-final first leg clash.

In his usual back five system, Tuchel opted to play Reece James and Cesar Azpilicueta as his wing-backs, with Azpilicueta deployed on the left side.

The team didn’t have the right balance in the first half, and Tuchel switched tactics at half-time.

Former Chelsea player-manager Glenn Hoddle has advised Tuchel to try out Marcos Alonso as his left wing-back in the second leg at the Bernabeu.

Glenn Hoddle told BT Sport 2:  “I think they’ve got to look at somebody like Alonso on that left-hand side [for the second leg], someone who’s going to get around the outside. They really struggled to get around the outside.”
