‘Very clever captain – See how Azpilicueta distracts Palmeiras players with genius penalty trick

Chelsea finally wins the Club World Cup after an intense battle in Abu Dhabi against Palmeiras as Kai Havertz penalty seals the victory for the Blues

However, The Blues takes the lead through Romelu Lukaku in the first half, but the Blues were pegged back after the hour mark, with Raphael Veiga scoring a penalty to level the scores for the Brazilian side.

Both teams took the battle to extra time, and Chelsea were awarded a penalty late in extra time.

Funny enough, Chelsea skipper Cesar Azpilicueta quickly ran to the penalty box and took hold of the ball, pretending he was the eventual taker, only to hand the ball over to Kai Havertz who smashed it home.

Azpilicueta solved two problems with his action. Firstly, he took away the pressure from Kai Havertz, and secondly he cut off any likely debate over who will take the penalty.

Liam Twomey was also very much impressed with the skipper’s action.

Twomey wrote on Twitter: “Very clever captain’s play by Azpilicueta.”

“Held onto the ball and made Palmeiras think he was the pen taker, absorbed all their attempts to delay and get in his head, then gave the ball to Havertz “
